Long House and High Cross Availability

The Long House is familiar to the veterans of the IWCL, who would have stayed there between 1977 and 1984. But there are many members who have yet to take advantage of its great location, for a relaxing holiday with their family and friends. Additionally, the adjacent (attached) property of High Cross is also available. This page is to try to tempt you, fellow IWCL members, to have an excellent holiday in the lakes. The Long House had undergone a significant upgrade last year, so those of you who have not stayed there for some time will be pleasantly surprised by the improvement in the facilities. Contact Andy Burr for details - see bottom of this page. Availability can be found here.

The Long House and High Cross

Lakeland Farmhouse Family Holidays

Highcross from the drive A holiday in the lakes can be whatever you want it to be. For those who want to take advantage of the endless range of activities on offer in the lakes, The Long House and High Cross are central to them all. For a serious walk, or for a leisurely stroll, you can walk straight from the house; up into the hills, through the woods and forests, or around the shores of Loweswater or Crummock Water, only a few minutes walk away. Orienteering courses, cycle hire, a variety of walks and a Visitor Centre are available at the nearby Whinlatter Pass. Loweswater and Crummock Water provide opportunities for fishing, with licences and boat hire available locally. Whiteless Pike and Grasmoor The Long House and High Cross can provide a convenient base to explore further afield in Cumbria and beyond. To the west, the dramatic Cumbrian coastline provides breathtaking views, with the miniature railway at Ravenglass or the Sellafield Visitor Centre offering two of many opportunities for trips out. To the North lie the Borders and Scotland, with a plentiful variety of options to visit. The popular towns of Ambleside, Bowness and Windermere are to the south with Morcambe Bay beyond. The two local towns of Keswick and Cockermouth offer a full range of shops with interesting and historic places to see. The Kirkstile Inn is 5 minutes walk away, offering excellent food and beer, in a charming atmosphere.
